Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, CA

Golden Gate Bridge Events & Annual Calendar (2026)

Key annual events include Fleet Week (October, Blue Angels over the Bay), the Golden Gate Half Marathon (November, run across the bridge), Bay to Breakers (May), and the bridge's anniversary on May 27. This calendar covers events at and near the bridge throughout the year, with fog forecasts for outdoor events.

Winter (January – March)

New Year's Day Bridge Walk

January 1 Golden Gate Bridge

A popular tradition — start the year with a bridge crossing. Expect moderate crowds. Dress warmly (highs ~55°F). Check visibility before going.

Fog forecast: Fog is rare in January — usually clear.

Chinese New Year Parade

Late January / February Chinatown & downtown SF

One of the largest Chinese New Year celebrations outside Asia. Dragon dancers, firecrackers, floats. Not at the bridge, but a great SF experience to combine with your visit.

SF Indie Fest

Late January / Early February Various SF venues

Independent film festival showcasing local and international films. Indoor activity — good foggy-day backup.

Spring (April – May)

Cherry Blossom Festival

Two weekends in April Japantown

Japanese cultural celebration with performances, food, and cherry blossoms. Great way to spend a morning before heading to the bridge.

Bay to Breakers

Third Sunday in May Howard St to Ocean Beach

San Francisco's iconic 12K footrace — one of the world's oldest consecutively run annual races. Thousands run in costumes (or less). The route doesn't cross the bridge but the party atmosphere engulfs the city.

Fog forecast: May fog is moderate — the race often starts in fog and finishes in sun at Ocean Beach.

Golden Gate Bridge Anniversary

May 27 Golden Gate Bridge

The bridge opened on May 27, 1937. The anniversary is occasionally marked with special events, though not every year. A meaningful day for a bridge walk regardless.

Summer (June – August)

SF Pride Parade

Last Sunday in June Market Street

One of the world's largest Pride celebrations. Over a million attendees. The parade is downtown, not at the bridge, but the whole city celebrates. Book accommodation far in advance.

Fog forecast: June is foggy — the bridge may be socked in even as downtown is sunny.

Stern Grove Festival

Sundays, mid-June through August Stern Grove, Sunset District

Free outdoor concerts every Sunday in a eucalyptus-lined amphitheater. World-class performers. Arrive early with a blanket and picnic.

Outside Lands Music Festival

Early August Golden Gate Park

Major three-day music festival with top-tier headliners. Tickets sell out quickly. In Golden Gate Park, about 3 miles from the bridge.

Fog forecast: 'Fogust' means the festival is often foggy and cold. Bring warm layers.

Fourth of July Fireworks

July 4 San Francisco waterfront

Fireworks launch from the waterfront near Pier 39. Crissy Field is a popular viewing spot with the bridge in the background. Fog often obscures the display — it's a uniquely SF experience when fireworks explode inside clouds.

Fog forecast: July 4 is frequently foggy. Fireworks may be partially or fully hidden by fog.

Fall (September – November)

Fleet Week

Usually second week of October San Francisco waterfront & bay

The Blue Angels perform aerobatic displays over San Francisco Bay, often flying near the Golden Gate Bridge. One of the most spectacular annual events. Watch from Crissy Field, Marina Green, or the bridge itself. Arrive early — viewpoints fill fast.

Fog forecast: October is usually clear — ideal conditions for Fleet Week. Check forecast for the specific dates.

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass

First weekend of October Golden Gate Park

Free three-day music festival featuring bluegrass, folk, country, and Americana acts. Major artists perform on multiple stages. One of SF's best free events.

Golden Gate Half Marathon & 5K

Early November Golden Gate Bridge & Marin Headlands

Run across the Golden Gate Bridge! One of the few races that crosses the bridge. The course includes the bridge, Marin Headlands trails, and Sausalito. Register months in advance — sells out.

Fog forecast: November is usually clear, but early morning start may encounter light fog that burns off.

Hawk Hill Raptor Migration

September – November Hawk Hill, Marin Headlands

Thousands of hawks, eagles, and falcons migrate south over the Marin Headlands. The Golden Gate Raptor Observatory counts birds daily. Peak in mid-October. Combine raptor watching with bridge photography from Hawk Hill.

Fog forecast: Clear fall days are best for raptor spotting.

Holiday Season (December)

Holiday Ice Skating

November – January Various SF locations

Outdoor ice skating rinks pop up at the Embarcadero, Union Square, and other locations. A festive activity to combine with winter bridge views.

New Year's Eve Fireworks

December 31 Embarcadero waterfront

Ring in the new year with fireworks over the Bay. The Embarcadero is the main viewing area. The bridge is illuminated but not the focus — midnight fireworks are along the waterfront.

Fog forecast: December is hit-or-miss for fog. Check forecast for NYE.
